Frequently Asked Questions

Foundations of Financial Planning is a two-month online short course covering the groundwork of the profession. You’ll study the financial planning industry, the planning process itself, the paperwork involved, economic fundamentals and taxation basics. It’s the first of four modules in our RG146 Professional Series, so it prepares you for the specialist modules that follow. The course is non-accredited, which means it operates outside the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

You’ll gain a working knowledge of how the industry works, who the participants are and how advisers move a client through the planning process. That knowledge applies to support and administration roles at advice practices, fund managers and superannuation providers. You’ll also cover monetary policy, fiscal policy and the economic cycle, which are the forces that shape investment conditions for clients. Our Advanced Diploma of Paraplanning is the longer route if you want a nationally recognised qualification.

Yes. We built the module for people fitting study around a job, so you decide when and where you work through it. Two months should cover the material comfortably, though you have up to three. Quizzes throughout let you check what you’ve absorbed before moving on. Our trainers take questions by phone, Zoom or email on weekdays between 9am and 5.30pm.

This module comes first in the series and covers the context advisers work in, including the industry, the planning process, economic fundamentals and taxation basics. RG146 Professional Series: Investments is the second module and goes into the products themselves, covering asset classes, investment risk, diversification and how to select investments for clients. Each module takes two months, and you can complete them all in sequence or complete either one on its own.

No. You can enrol without formal prerequisites or industry experience, and this module starts from the fundamentals. Once we receive your enrolment, one of our course consultants will talk through your background to see if this training suits you. You’ll need a working computer with Microsoft Office 2016 or later, plus internet access fast enough to watch videos.

This module might suit you if you want to understand how financial planning works before committing to a longer qualification. Two months and $750 makes it a manageable starting point, and you can continue into specialist modules covering investments, insurance and superannuation. It also works if you already hold a support role in financial services and want the industry context behind the work you do.
