Career Opportunities

The Diploma of Entrepreneurship and Innovation is made for the doers, the bootstrappers, the get-stuck-in-ers. It’s designed to help bridge the gaps between your technical skills, business skills, and higher-level critical thinking skills. In other words, the magic triad you need to develop products that are truly original. The best part is, Monarch Institute’s DEI is so flexible, you can start working on your big idea while you’re still studying.

Key opportunities include:

Pathways

The Diploma of Entrepreneurship and Innovation is designed to help get you started on your business idea(s) ASAP. But it’s also a potential pathway to further study for entrepreneurs for whom curiosity means constant learning. For example, you could use your nationally recognised Diploma to help gain entry (or even a head start) on an Advanced Diploma in a similar field.

The DEI could even be part of your pathway to further study at university.

Just make sure you check with the university of your choice about entry options and course credit before you enrol with Monarch Institute.

Course Topics

The Diploma has five core units and six elective units. These cover core skills like validating product ideas, critical thinking, and securing that critical business funding.

Module 1

Nailing your customer solution

This module guides you through the big-picture stuff you need to have in place for great ideas to flow.  In case nobody’s told you yet, we’ll let you in on a (not so) little secret: your product doesn’t have to be 100% perfect when you launch it. And it’ll never BE perfect without improvements based on real data from real users. This module guides you through the steps of validating a product idea and defining what you really need to launch. You’ll also learn what it takes to get cash you need to get started or break through to the next level.

Module 2

Creating an innovative environment, with the right team

Constant improvement takes the wisdom to know what’s wrong – and the guts to say it out loud. It takes finesse to generate and articulate solutions that everyone wants to get on board with. If your team is going to be up to the challenge, you’ve got to build the right team culture. One that sparks innovation and critical thinking.

Module 3

The nuts and bolts of business

The reason so many start-ups fail is so simple, it’s almost boring: they fail to plan. Great ideas with real commercial potential can’t go anywhere if the fundamentals aren’t in place. This module is about the technical knowledge you need to create or supervise business plans, financial plans, and action plans for your projects.

Module 4

Establish Your Team and Market Your Product

You can’t create a solution without first knowing what the problem is. And you can’t create a great solution without a strong support network – even if you’re a solopreneur. This module sets you up with the basics of market research and strengthening your network in all directions. To top it all off, you’ll learn how to choose the right marketing opportunities to help bring your solution to all the right people.

"Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from."
– Seth Godin

I started my career in the Banking sector, with experience in lending and securities. I then spent over 20 years in the Royal Australian Air Force as a Logistics Officer and later specialised in Education and Training, where I was a trainer, assessor and executive.

In 2007, I established a private business as a consultant, specialising in Leadership, Management, Business and Professional Development training. I have qualifications in HR, Management, Leadership, Coaching, Warehousing, Transport and Logistics, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Advanced Facilitation. I also trained in Professional Mentoring, Workplace and Leadership Coaching,  Counselling and Conflict Management and underwent undergrad studies in Human Resources.

What gets me out of bed in the morning?

I live for weekends, where I spend it exploring, listening to and making music, camping, flying aircraft, playing with my Staffy, named Harper Cookie Face!
